I’m here today to finally receive my high school diploma. I’m so thankful to have this second chance. This diploma means getting my confidence back that I had lost many years ago.”
— Wyatt, Class of ’23

One size DOES NOT fit all. What’s in your future?

Whatever the reason high school didn’t work out for you, you’re here now to walk or run up to that stage, with the support of teachers who care and understand, as your running mates, and finally achieve your high school diploma.

Our teachers, staff, and our founder, Sunny Schwartz…we’ve all been told there was something we couldn’t possibly do, once upon a time. We all have something in common with YOU and that is the belief that YOU CAN. You CAN get your high school diploma, whether it takes one year or six years. Our approach to learning is innovative and tailored just for you. Your past attempts may not have worked because one size doesn’t fit all.

YOU dropped out and now it’s time to DROP back in. You will determine, achieve, and reach your graduation day, at your own pace, with us.

Don’t just take our word for it, listen to our graduates:

Coming to Five Keys was one of the best decisions I could make for my future. It doesn’t matter where you came from, what your background is, where you started, or who finished before you…it’s all about what do you do with your life, today.
— Brianna, Class of ’23
I stand here today, a graduate of Five Keys Charter School, armed with a newfound sense of purpose and the tools to build a brighter future. My addiction may have caused me to lose myself, but Five Keys helped me find my way back. That showed me that education was not just about obtaining a diploma…it’s about reclaiming one’s identity, rediscovering one’s worth, and charting a course toward a life of meaning and fulfillment.
— Aisha, Class of ’23

HISTORY

Five Keys was founded in 2003 by the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department as the first accredited charter high school in the nation to provide diploma programs for adults in county jails. Today, we offer high school education, vocational skills, life skills classes, and access to college, and workforce programs in 24 jails and 9 counties.

A Few Facts from Stanford University’s Center for Research on Education Outcomes (CREDO):

• Charter public schools across the country have evolved over time and charter school students are now showing greater academic gains than their peers in traditional public schools.

• California charter public schools are doing especially well educating historically underserved students compared to traditional public schools.
